Chapter 1, Mishna 1 Rabbi Yochanan and Reish Lakish debate the source for the law that the High Priest must be sequestered for 7 days prior to Yom Kippur. Rabbi Yochanan says it’s because the original High Priest, Aaron, was sequestered prior to the Inauguration of his service in the Tabernacle. Reish Lakish says it’s because Moses was sequestered in the Cloud of Glory before entering the Divine Presence and receiving the Torah on Mt. Sinai. Can one tremble and rejoice at the same time (Ps. 2:11​)? Must one tremble and rejoice at times? Is it mitzvah to keep a secret? Yes!
