Three more wisdom teachings based on Deut. 30:12-13, the Torah is not in the Heavens or beyond the sea… How do we set the edges of certain irregularly-shaped cities for the purpose of measuring one’s Shabbos boundary? Rav advises against living in a nomadic desert compound composed of temporary huts. Why? A settlement composed of temporary huts is not a city regarding Shabbos boundary. But didn’t the Children of Israel occupy temporary huts in the wilderness, and their massive encampment WAS regarded as a city?! Rava: if the Lord tells you to dwell there, it’s a city!
