We may not throw an object from a private domain to a public domain and vice versa on Shabbos. Throwing from private domain to private domain does not result in liability to bring a sin offering, but passing an object may. Source for the prohibition on carrying appears to be the people bringing materials for building the Tabernacle in the wilderness. What about throwing? We learn it from a tradition. Who was the wood gatherer? Rabbi Akiva said he was Zelophehad “who died of his own sin,” father of the five daughters who brought a legtimate complaint to Moses, which was endorsed by God. But if the Torah didn’t identify him, why do you do so, Akiva? This is the question of Rabbi Yehuda ben Beseira. We must never embarrass a person publicly. Reish Lakish says even Moses was punished for this when he said the “people won’t believe me” at the burning bush. We don’t know what other people believe or think, and we must not ascribe bad beliefs, thoughts, intentions or indiscretions to them.
